“I was an ICU nurse when that first deadly wave of COVID hit New York and quickly spread west to New Jersey where I was working. During that first wave, I went to work every day to fight that disease and try to help people get better or at least stay alive. And every day more people arrived. I know you don’t want to be in there fighting, but I thank you for it. You’re not just fighting for yourself and your neighbors, but for all of us. Know, also, that although you are bearing the brunt of the fight, you have millions of people behind you witnessing the nightmare and trying our best to support you. Our best may never feel enough – for you or for us – but just like the hundred pizzas I ate, I hope it helps sustain you and lets you know you’re seen and appreciated.”
